Abstract.
The research objective includes identifying cognitive characteristics of elliptization process in the modern English news media discourse. The article describes linguistic and pragmatic features of elliptical constructions in electronic and print media. Scientific originality of the paper involves a new approach to studying ellipsis, where elliptization is considered from the viewpoint of cognitive attitudes. The conducted research allows identifying the following mechanisms of elliptical constructions formation in the English media discourse: dynamism, spontaneity, intentionality and emotionality of contextual speech.
