W. Stevens’s Poetry in the Aspect of Space (by the Example of Analysing the Russian Translations of the Poem “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird”)

Abstract.
The study aims to determine the degree to which translations of W. Stevens’s poem “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird” are consistent with the author’s concept. The study is novel in that it attempts to reconstruct an objective picture of how the work was introduced into the Russian literary use, which contributes to the process of interpreting the American poet’s ground-breaking literary heritage, facilitates popularization of this unique creative phenomenon in Russia. As a result, it is proved that W. Stevens remains a stand-alone figure in the Russian literary process requiring further consideration and exploration, which is supported by the lack of comprehensive studies and the number of the Russian literary translations being low.
