Specificity of Translating Phraseological Units Subjected to Lexical Transformation from English into Russian

Abstract. The paper aims to identify techniques to translate phraseological units subjected to lexical transformation. The author describes results of a linguistic experiment during which thirty three respondents were asked to translate phraseological units subjected to lexical transformation. The research material was obtained from the English-language political texts. Scientific originality of the study is conditioned by the fact that the researcher examines usage of transformed phraseological units classified according to the degree of lexical stability and also by the fact that transformed phraseological units are analysed from the viewpoint of their translatability from English into Russian. The author for the first time, by the material of the English-language political discourse, examines techniques to translate phraseological units subjected to lexical transformation. As a result, the researcher identifies translation techniques used to translate from English into Russian phraseological units subjected to lexical transformation.
