Language of Guy de Maupassant’s Short Story “My Uncle Jules” as Manifestation of Its Genre Originality

Abstract.
The paper examines typological features of the short story as a literary genre and their realization in the language of Guy de Maupassant’s short story “My Uncle Jules”. The article considers the following issues: the story composition, the function of the lyrical hero-narrator, the personage system, the story atmosphere, the storyline development, unexpected denouement, the role of recurrent images-symbols as story-formative means. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher analyses the language of the story in the context of its genre specificity, identifies the role of recurrent images as important compositional elements. As a result, it is proved that depth and universality of the short story genre presupposes richness of its language.
