Abstract.
The paper aims to identify techniques to translate American onomastic realia expressed by verbs formed from proper names. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that onomastic units are considered as the bearers of linguo-cultural information - a component of background knowledge required for effective intercultural communication, including translation. The research findings are as follows: the author identifies the most efficient techniques to translate American onomastic realia expressed by verbs. Among them are the following: substitution, descriptive translation, transcription, literal translation. The conclusion is made that conversive transformations make it possible to transfer the elements of linguistic game and necessary cultural information.
