Abstract.
The purpose of the research is to identify the core and peripheral phonetic and lexical features of geographical terms in the Tyumen dialect of the Tatar language on the territory of Tyumensky District. The paper provides examples of consonant correspondences and other phonetic phenomena (interchange, devoicing, voicing, dropping, insertion, etc.). The researchers examine the changes in the semantics (narrowing or extension) of dialectisms as components of geographical terms. A comparative analysis involving other Tatar language dialects and Turkic languages is presented. The research is novel in that it deals with studying the phonetic features peculiar to the category of geographical terms of Tatar dialect vocabulary. As a result of analysing the linguistic features, it has been ascertained that the Tyumen dialect of the Tatar language is a distinct element of the Tatar dialect system.
