Abstract.
The purpose of the paper is to show the consequences of the forcibly imposed method of socialist realism and how the change of the ideological vector of Riza Ishmuratov’s play “In Ten Years” influenced its characters’ personalities. The researcher uses a comparative analysis of two versions of the play as a decisive evidence of ideological pressure in literature. Scientific novelty lies in the fact that the first version of the play, which has not received attention of literary critics before, becomes the object of scientific research for the first time. As a result, the versions of the play written at different times clearly demonstrate how the Bolsheviks suppressed artists’ freedom of creativity in the 1920s-1930s, how their dictatorship in art and literature was established.
