Reinterpretation of Chekhov’s Traditions in D. Krymov’s “Kostik”

Abstract.
The purpose of the study is to determine similarities and differences between the texts of the plays “The Seagull” and “Kostik” at the level of structure and plot. Scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the attention of literary and theater critics has always been drawn to the differences between the dramatic production “Kostik” and A. P. Chekhov’s play “The Seagull”, while the researcher has made the first attempt to compare the texts of Chekhov’s comedy and D. Krymov’s play based on “The Seagull”. As a result, it has been proved that the dramatis personae of the analysed plays coincide, but the characters’ status and occupation are partially changed. The difference between “The Seagull” and “Kostik” is in the number of acts, the time of action in the play, the interpretation of Arkadina’s, Treplev’s, Trigorin’s and Zarechnaya’s images.
