Abstract. The aim of the study is to assess the degree of biography influence on the formation of the author’s crosscultural synthesis conception in the prose of the American writer J. Eugenides. The article examines the features of the national-specific colouring of J. Eugenides’s poetics in the context of the multiculturalism phenomenon. The scientific novelty of the work is determined by the lack of research of the author’s artistic conception of crosscultural interaction and the substantiation of the importance of studying multiculturalism while interpreting modern American literary works. As a result, the main features of crosscultural synthesis organization in J. Eugenides’s prose are highlighted. This synthesis manifests itself primarily in the impossibility for the characters to make an important choice without taking into account generally accepted and socially approved norms.
