Abstract.
The aim of the study is to reveal the poet Nikolai Lukhmanov’s views on the early NEP culture. In the period from 1921 to 1923, Lukhmanov was an active participant in Smolensk cultural life acting as one of the organizers of the word artists’ artel “Arena”. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time the creative work of Lukhmanov as an ideologist of literary process in Smolensk region has received a detailed interpretation. The results of the scientific research have shown that the poet acted as a consistent critic of the literary mores concentrated in the cafes “Stall of Pegasus” and “Domino”. But despite the denial of the literary environment that formed in the cafes, the idea that different poets can unite within the same space for joint creative activity had the greatest influence on Lukhmanov.
