Ethnocultural distinctness of Swiss phraseological units

Abstract.
The aim of the research is to identify the ethnocultural distinctness of Swiss phraseological units as means of the national identification of the German-speaking Swiss in the modern discursive space. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in studying Swiss-specific phraseological units as means of Swiss ethnoculture representation using the material of modern discursive practices of Swiss linguistic personalities. As a result of the research, the following types of Swiss-specific phraseological units have been identified: 1) non-equivalent phraseological units that reflect national Swiss realia (toponyms, anthroponyms, names of Swiss monetary units); 2) phraseological units the core of which is formed by lexico-semantic Helvetisms and dialectisms; 3) comparative phraseological units, which, depending on their structure, are divided into the following groups: a) word combinations with comparative conjunctions; b) proverbs; c) subordinate clauses of comparison. The research has determined the linguopragmatic potential of Swiss interjectional phraseological units in Swiss discourse; characterised Swiss national proverbs, which are an integral component of the Swiss phraseological stock reflecting cultural codes, the peculiarities of the national character and worldview of the German-speaking Swiss.
