Abstract.
The aim of the study is to reveal how certain stylistic devices are used to describe the heroes’ images and the surroundings in a fairy tale by the British writer S. Haddow. The article conducts stylistic analysis aimed at exploring the text of the fairy tale as a combination of all linguistic elements. Text analysis helps to extract the maximum of the heroes’ emotions and feelings in the text of the fairy tale and to explain the use of stylistic devices. The study is novel in that it is the first one to give a detailed description of the heroes’ images in S. Haddow’s fairy tale “Little Rabbit’s Big Surprise”. In addition, the article presents the distribution of stylistic devices in a specific setting. The text has not previously been analyzed taking into account its stylistic means and the specifics of their functioning, therefore the article is in demand for the development of the stylistics, vocabulary and syntax issues of literary English in books. It should be noted that in this perspective, works of S. Haddow have not been investigated. As a result of the study, it was found that stylistic devices such as antithesis, repetitions, prepositional adjective epithets and metaphors help the reader to create a more accurate and vivid image of the heroes and to present the atmosphere and the world of the fairy tale.
