Demonological vocabulary in the Ossetian language

Abstract.
The article considers a list of lexical units in Ossetian language, which reflect names of demonological characters. The aim of the study is to identify semantics of demonological lexicon, both in mythological texts and in speech constructions. The scientific novelty of the presented work is that for the first time stylistic features and functions of the demonological vocabulary in everyday speech of the Ossetian language, in creation of metaphors and phraseological turns were defined. The study found that the use of demonological vocabulary in speech constructions often has deep symbolic and metaphorical meanings, greatly enriching the text and making it more emotionally rich. Often the characteristic of the demonological image is transferred to the subject of the speech act. In the course of the study, it was found that the awareness of the meaning of a metaphor, formed by means of a demonological lexicon, always occurs at the expense of knowledge and the producer and subject of speech act of corresponding demonological images.
