The poetics of K. K. Labensky (based on lyrical works)

Abstract. The aim of this research on the lyric poetry of K. K. Labensky (Jean Polonius) is to describe and typologically define the author's poetics. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that, for the first time, the poetics of Labensky's lyrical works are described sequentially, in their main features, with the identification of a dominant category that structures the poet's lyrics as a holistic, internally logical formation. Drawing on the context of French Romantic poetry of the 1820s makes it possible to determine the thematic and problematic constants characteristic of this era that resonate with Labensky's lyrics. The author of the article notes that during the poet's lifetime, due to the insufficiently developed methodology of literary criticism, certain aspects of Labensky's poetics could not be investigated (the concept of lyrical hero, for example, dates back to the 20th century), which is why individual poetological observations and remarks scattered throughout critical publications of the 19th-20th centuries were not consolidated into a holistic characterization of the poetics of a once very famous author. The results obtained indicate that the poetics of K. K. Labensky are fundamentally Romantic in type (with minor inclusions of Neoclassical elements – pastoral motifs, antique images – which is often found in early Romantics); the creation of lyrical hero of direction, characterized by involvement in almost all models of dual worlds found in Romantic discourse, should be recognized as an original feature of K. K. Labensky's poetics.
