Abstract.
The peer-reviewed book offers an analysis of the monograph of one of the leading Chekhov scholars, composed of articles from different years, which are combined into three sections, each is devoted to a general discourse: the literary and biographical context of Chekhov's works, his literary connections with both classical writers and contemporaries. All articles correspond to the researcher's idea of brilliant Chekhov's stylization, of the writer's appeal to the literary context, which is based on respect for all previous literature, as well as polemics with it. The scientist develops the idea of distinguishing between the external and internal biography of the writer, which is the experience of self-knowledge of the personality, clarifies the concepts of intertext and hypertext. The monograph is intended for both literary scholars and a wide range of readers.
