The role of the intelligentsia in the drama of Akbar Radi and A. P. Chekhov

Abstract.
This article presents a study of the representation of the intelligentsia in the drama of Akbar Radi and Anton Chekhov. The aim of the research is to identify typological features in the depiction of the intelligentsia in the drama of Akbar Radi and Anton Chekhov, both universal and nationally specific aspects of this image at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The scientific novelty consists in the identified fact of typological similarity in the depiction of the intelligentsia by the two playwrights, which reflects the universality of the crisis of the intellectual class at the turn of eras, while the national characteristics of the dramaturgical embodiment of this crisis testify to the specificity of the cultural development of Iran and Russia in the specified period. The results obtained showed the presence of both universal features in the depiction of the intelligentsia (existential crisis, alienation, conflict between ideals and reality) and nationally specific features, due to differences in the socio-cultural context of Iran and Russia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
