Abstract.
The aim of the study is to understand the specifics and functional features of titles-quotes in the space of a literary text based on the stories of I. A. Bunin. The article examines the poetics of quotation titles from the point of view of the structural features of the analyzed works. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that during the analysis, various types of title-quotes were identified and their multifunctionality was determined. In the artistic system of the writer, titles are the organizing element of the text. They give an impulse to understanding the text, reveal the meaning hidden in the subtext. This vector of research allows us to deepen our understanding of the formal and substantive specifics of Bunin’s prose, to identify the functional capabilities of various types of titles-quotes in the structure of Bunin’s texts. Based on the analysis conducted, we can draw a conclusion about the conceptual meaning of titles-quotes, which are a kind of semantic marker, focusing the attention of readers on understanding existential issues. As a result, it was established that titles-quotes in Bunin’s stories contain a semantic core and serve to reveal the semantic paradigm of his works.
