The role of signatures and pseudonyms in the works of V. F. Odoevsky

Abstract.
The study aims to identify the specific uses of pseudonyms and signatures in the works of V. F. Odoevsky. The scientific novelty of this paper lies in the fact that the conducted analysis made it possible to systematize and group Odoevsky’s known pseudonyms and signatures, identify their thematic divisions, and determine their role in shaping the author’s image. As a result, it was established that, despite the incomplete list of works authored by Odoevsky, it was possible to thematically categorize the established number of his known pseudonyms. Odoevsky’s pseudonyms and signatures are not a random collection of names, but form a clear system determined by the subject matter of his works: signatures in polemical journals “with himself” (criticism – anti-criticism), journalistic articles in magazines and almanacs (pedagogy, music, cooking, urban studies, philosophy), as well as in literary texts (fairy tales). In Odoevsky’s work, in addition to the usual pseudonyms and signatures, one can also discover entire personalities with their own biographies, such as “Grandfather Iriney” and “Mr. Puff”. It has also been proven that the use of multiple pseudonyms is a deliberate artistic device. The results of this study allow us to gain a deeper understanding of V. F. Odoevsky’s works and his methods for shaping the author’s image in the eyes of the reader.
