The relics of imperfect and aorist verb forms in “The Dictionary of Russian Folk Dialects” (through the example of lexicographic history of the adverb “неможахом” and the verb “приобретохать”)

Abstract.
The aim of the research is to describe relict forms of the aorist and imperfect verb forms in terms of Russian dialect data. The author of the article focuses on the history of particular words – the adverb “неможахом” and the verb “приобретохать”, which are fixed in the “Dictionary of Russian Folk Dialects”. These examples were considered disputable in the publications related to lexicographic criticism and verification of the dictionary sources, since the diachronic aspect of the research is connected with the lexicographic history of the words. The scientific novelty of this work lies in its use of data from various sources, including the first use of the “Dictionary of Russian Folk Dialects” card index, to clarify certain aspects of the history of the adverb “неможахом” and to propose a new theory regarding the occasional origin of the verb “приобретохать” in the “Dictionary of Russian Folk Dialects”. The results demonstrate that the adverb “неможахом” (meaning ‛in a very painful condition’), originally a standard first-person plural imperfect from the verb “(не) мoщи/мoчи”, has become established in Russian dialects along with the set expression “еле можахом”, which also persists in literary Russian. The history of the verb “приобретохать” is non-standard. It is reconstructed by directly consulting the source – “Great Russian Fairy Tales of the Vyatka Province” – as recorded by Dmitry Konstantinovich Zelenin. In this collection, the verb is recorded in the form “прiобрѣтохалъ”, which is the result of a combination of the Church Slavonic aorist and the modern past tense.
