Abstract.
This research is devoted to the study of the lexico-stylistic and grammatical realization of femininity and masculinity in women’s political discourse. The aim of the work is to identify personal and culturally specific features of the representation of femininity/masculinity in the speech of a female politician in Great Britain / Northern Ireland. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time, when studying the speech of a female politician, not only feminine markers are analyzed, but also markers of masculinity, moreover, these gender markers are studied in a comparative aspect. This allows us to offer a new holistic view of the speech behavior of a female politician and identify linguistic ways to adapt this linguistic personality to a traditionally “masculine” environment while preserving her gender identity and the national and cultural identity of the country she represents. The results showed that in English / Northern Irish women’s political discourse, markers of femininity are more pronounced at the lexical and stylistic level, and markers of masculinity are more pronounced at the grammatical level. However, there is a general trend – the predominance of markers of femininity.
