Features of the representation of cognitive and traditional metaphors in G. Flaubert’s individual authorial consciousness

Abstract.
The paper aims to reveal the specific characteristics and semantics of cognitive and traditional (image-based) metaphors in G. Flaubert’s individual creative worldview, as presented in his philosophical-religious work “The Temptation of Saint Anthony”. The paper elucidates the specific nature of the individual author’s approach to interpreting the main features of cognitive and traditional (image-based) metaphors, based on the internal forms of their key linguistic representations. The essential characteristics of cognitive and traditional metaphors are analyzed from the perspective of cognitive linguistics, taking as a basis the connection between language and thought. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that, for the first time, the specific features of cognitive and traditional metaphors are defined from the perspective of an individual author’s consciousness, by applying the theory of linguistic-cognitive comparison of the key characteristics of metaphorical representations. Furthermore, at the current stage, the realm of metaphorical representations objectified by the individual consciousness of a writer has been insufficiently studied and requires special attention from linguists. As a result of the scientific research, the specific features of the formation of cognitive and traditional metaphors determined by the uniqueness of G. Flaubert’s individual authorial consciousness were identified. The structure of metaphorical representations was determined. The main features of the functioning of cognitive and traditional metaphors in the text of the philosophical-religious work “The Temptation of Saint Anthony” were revealed. The study of cognitive and traditional (image-based) metaphors within G. Flaubert’s individual authorial consciousness allows for the determination of methods for differentiating linguistic structures related to the algorithms for manifesting the knowledge and experience of a creative individual in the process of forming an individual authorial credo, embodied in language.
