Abstract.
The aim of the study is to identify the structural-semantic, grammatical, and motivational features of Karachay-Balkar two-word microtoponyms with anthroponymic components. The scientific novelty of the work lies in that, for the first time, based on Karachay-Balkar language material and considering structural, semantic, and grammatical characteristics, a scientific taxonomy of the examined units has been established, their detailed description provided, the degree of productivity of formal models determined, and their main motivational aspects of nomination presented. As a result of the conducted research, the structural-semantic and grammatical features of the examined onyms were identified, and their component composition was determined. It was established that substantives with various semantic meanings primarily function as the second components of these toponyms. The results showed that in the vast majority of cases, this position is occupied by names of natural as well as man-made objects. Some of the analyzed toponymic descriptions follow the scheme “anthroponym + somatism”. Less frequent are units where postpositive components denote places of residence and present or past participles.
