The genre of documentary fiction novella in Adyghe literature: evolution and contemporary state

Abstract.
This article examines the documentary fiction novella in Adyghe literature, tracing its developmental dynamics and analyzing its contemporary state. The aim of the study is to identify the main developmental trends of the genre, reflecting the evolution of the Adyghe worldview and their ethnocultural development (the Adyghes, Kabardians, Circassians). The scientific novelty of the research lies in identifying and systematizing models unique to Adyghe literature for the transformation of documentary prose. These models are characterized by the discovery of a ‘subjectivized documentary’ model with an active narrator’s role, a typology of artistic conflicts as an ‘instrument of change’, the concept of ‘multilayered time’ for understanding national history, and a typology of ‘public interest’ reflecting national self-awareness. The research results show that, despite the influence of oral folk art, the Adyghe documentary novella possesses unique features that align it with the documentary prose of other peoples of the North Caucasus. The article also examines the transformation of genre forms and the growing interest in the documentary trend within contemporary Adyghe prose. Key features of the documentary novella in Adyghe literature are highlighted: critical analysis, authorial voice, and connection to national traditions. Perspectives for further research into this genre are proposed.
