Non-canonical forms of the sonnet in contemporary Adyghe poetry (based on the works of Kabardian and Circassian poets)

Abstract.
The article examines the trends in the development of the sonnet genre in Adyghe (Kabardian-Circassian) poetry, with a focus on its non-canonical forms. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the identification and study of poetic forms that are innovative for national literature – specifically, variations of the non-canonical sonnet. The article addresses the underexplored issue of the transformation of the Adyghe sonnet and introduces for the first time into scholarly discourse the research material of “off-format” sonnets by the Kabardian and Circassian poets R. Kh. Atskanov, U. A. Tkhagapsov, A. A. Karmova, L. Kh. Pshukov, and N. Sh. Makhotlov. The obtained results reflect the progressive genre modifications of the sonnet in the works of the considered authors and suggest a movement within the Adyghe (Kabardian-Circassian) poetry of fixed verse forms towards gradual formal liberation – a partial departure from canonical prescriptions. Within this aspect, the study examines variations of the non-canonical sonnet that deviate from stanzaic structure, meter, and rhyme scheme, such as the half-sonnet and the “limping” sonnet. Their contentual and architectonic properties are investigated, and the peculiarities of their versification are identified through the compilation and description of rhyme and metrical schemes.
