Conceptualization of national identity in German media discourse: a linguocultural perspective

Abstract. The aim of the study is to identify value-based and culturally significant dominants involved in the conceptualization of national identity in German media discourse from a linguocultural perspective. The article examines the features of the linguistic representation of the concept of national identity in contemporary German-language press texts. The research material consists of publications from Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Die Zeit, and Der Tagesspiegel, drawn from the German language corpus DWDS. The analysis identifies and systematizes key linguocultural dominants of the concept, among which historical memory, culture, and globalization play a central role. It is established that the historical narrative functions as the principal mechanism of discursive construction of national identity, being actualized through stable constants associated with key stages of German history. The scientific novelty of the study lies in a comprehensive description of the ways national identity is represented in German media discourse based on corpus data, as well as in revealing the interaction between linguistic and extralinguistic factors in its formation. The findings demonstrate the dynamic nature of German national identity, which is undergoing transformation under the influence of globalization and migration processes.
