Gender-based phraseological units of the Kabardian language: representation of the image of a woman

Abstract.
The article presents the results of an analysis of gender-based phraseological units in the Kabardian language. The research aims to determine the semantic meanings of gender-based phraseological units used to evaluate the external and internal qualities of an Adyghe woman or girl. An extensive list of fixed expressions was selected and analyzed from various dictionaries of the Kabardian language. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that, for the first time within the Kabardian linguistic context, an original classification system for these units has been developed based on their functional characteristics reflecting female nature. The analysis identifies three aspects of describing women: social (marriage, social status), external (appearance, age), and internal (character, temperament). It is proven that gender-based phraseological units serve as a significant reflection of the social status and role of women in the family and society. They contain information about cultural stereotypes regarding the female gender and define the specific cultural identity of the Adyghe ethnos. The study established a predominance of fixed units with a negative tone characterizing the nature and behavior of women, which significantly outnumber phraseological units with a positive connotation that emphasize beauty and dignity. This analysis not only facilitates an understanding of the specifics of gender roles in Adyghe society within the context of historical and cultural heritage but also helps trace the mechanisms of consolidating verbal attitudes that shape the image of women.
