BYRON'S PROMETHEUS IN RUSSIAN TRANSLATIONS: ANCIENT MYTH DOUBLE TRANSFORMATION

Abstract. The article reveals one of the reasons of Byron's poetry magic influence through the analysis of the poem Prometheus motive structure and image-bearing system. In its ultimately limited poetic space the ancient plot meets with dramatic political reality, Christian-oriented moral and tragic world perception of post-revolutionary epoch. The article also tackles the peculiarities of Byron's text interpretation by Russian translators.
