CONTROVERSY OF A. V. DRUZHININ AND N. G. CHERNYSHEVSKII ABOUT CREATIVE WORKS OF E. BULWER-LYTTON AS REPRESENTATION OF LITERARY SITUATION IN 1850-60

Abstract. The author considers the perception of E. Bulwer-Lytton’s creative works in the context of the Russian literary situation of the 1850-60’s, and basing on the analysis of the Russian critics’ reviews of the English writer’s works comes to the conclusion about the obvious interest of A. V. Druzhinin and N. G. Chernyshevskii to the works of the English writer in terms of their genre, narration and characters creation.
