ON SOME PECULIARITIES OF FORMATION OF DEMONYMS OF AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES, PROVINCES, BIG AND LARGE TOWNS OF SPAIN

Abstract. The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation of the demonyms of the autonomous communities, provinces, big and large towns of Spain. The author gives a definition of the demonym in the Spanish and Russian languages, and also the semantic classification of these units. By the material of the corpus of 260 demonyms the main means of their formation were ascertained: suffixation, the use of other stems, word composition, omission of a part of a complex demonym in combination with suffixation, reduction, and the change of the meaning of the words already existing in the language.
