DEFINITIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE LINGUOCULTURAL CONCEPT "GENERATION" IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article provides definitional analysis of the linguocultural concept "generation" marked by ethnocultural specifics. The author applies to the etymological data, makes definitional comparisons of the conceptual components of the concepts "generation" and "поколение" with a view to identify prototypical and variational features in the concept semantics manifesting similarity in the perception and awareness of the concepts by the representatives of the American and Russian national cultures. The author makes a detailed analysis of the dictionary definitions identifying the basic meaningful characteristics of the concepts "generation" and "поколение" registered in the lexicographical sources and established in the consciousness of the native speakers of Russian and English.
