SYMBOLISM AND PHILOSOPHICAL PROBLEMS OF BORGES’ SHORT STORY "ABENJACAN EL BOJARI, DEAD IN HIS LABYRINTH"

Abstract. The article deals with the symbolism of Jorge Luis Borges’ short story "Abenjacan el Bojari, Dead in his Labyrinth". The author also studies the peculiarities of Borges’ key archetypes, the labyrinth and the Minotaur, specifically in this text. The main difference between the labyrinth of Abenjacan and all other mazes is identified. On the basis of the analysis of the symbols the author considers the philosophical problems of the work in the context of Borges’ existential views.
