POLITENESS IN MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY: STUMBLING BLOCKS

Abstract. Study of the main principles of politeness in cross-cultural communication enables to avoid misunderstanding and ambiguity thus providing effective communication. The phenomenon of politeness is universal and at the same time is culture-specific. The article discusses some frequent ways of minimizing communicative pressure and describes the main stumbling blocks to effective communication amongst whish are language, non-verbal communication, preconceptions, anxiety, tendency to a quick evaluation.
