TOPONYMY OF ALASKA (WORD-FORMATION ASPECT)

Abstract. The article conducts the word-formation analysis of toponymic units of the State of Alaska, the USA. The aim of the study is revealing the peculiarities of suffixal word-formation in the toponymy of the USA by the example of the State of Alaska. In this connection derivative toponyms are considered, the statistical data on the frequency of the usage of various affixes in the formation of toponyms are given; the etymology of topoformants is pointed out. As an illustrative material the author suggests the existing geographical names of Alaska.
