THE BEAR METAPHOR IN DISCOURSE OF THE GERMAN MEDIA

Babkina Vera Aleksandrovna
Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

Abstract. The article discusses the use of the bear image in the contemporary German media by the example of metaphorical word usages, which are one of the ways to create an image of Russia in Germany. Based on the study, the author comes to the conclusion that, despite the fact that the bear is traditionally associated with aggression and unpredictable behaviour, it causes fear, this image is also used to describe its peace-loving attitude and constructive interaction with other actors.
Key words and phrases: медведь, метафорический образ, концептуальная метафора, зооморфная метафора, образ России, немецкие СМИ, bear, metaphorical image, conceptual metaphor, zoomorphic metaphor, image of Russia, German media
