TRANSLATOLOGICAL POTENTIAL OF THE ENGLISH PRONOUN SHE (BASED ON LITERARY DISCOURSE AND ITS TRANSLATIONS)

Abstract. The article considers different variants for actualizing the pronoun "she" in the contemporary English-language literary discourse, reveals the set of translation shifts that occur in Russian translations when rendering the given pronoun and studies the reasons for the interpreter to use these shifts. Translation shifts are interpreted in line with the cognitive-and-discourse approach and the theory of reference; they are viewed in a dynamic aspect, that is, as translation methods that can be applied by translators when working on different originals.
