STYLISTIC MEANS OF CREATING THE ARCTIC LANDSCAPE IN THE "NORTHERN" STORIES BY JACK LONDON

Abstract. The article is devoted to describing the basic stylistic means involved in creating the Arctic landscape in the "northern" stories by Jack London. Using a vast amount of illustrative material from the short story collections "Son of the Wolf", "The God of His Fathers" and "Children of the Frost", the researcher considers such stylistic means as personification, metaphor, comparison, metonymy and hyperbole. It is shown that personification prevails both quantitatively and qualitatively. The analysis of text fragments includes comments on the role of a particular stylistic means when depicting the Arctic landscape.
