Abstract. The reference to V. F. Kudryavtsev's (1843-1910) creative heritage who was the ethnographer, historian, enlightenment devotee, full member of Nizhnii Novgorod statistical committee, talented researcher of Nizhnii Novgorod territory is interesting because it vividly reflects many peculiarities and features of the development of the Russian society and the culture of his epoch. His life and creative activity coincided with the formation of new scientific realities and wide interest of the Russian society to the history of local territory. V. F. Kudryavtsev's creative heritage is extensive and many-sided, it hasn't lost its historic value even today.
