APPEARANCE INFLUENCE ON FORMATION OF PROTAGONIST’S ARTISTIC IMAGE OF A. L. WEBBER’S MUSICAL "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA"

Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the protagonist’s artistic image of A. L. Webber’s musical "The Phantom of the Opera". It is stated that the change in the appearance of the Phantom in comparison with the original source leads to the transformation of his artistic image as a whole and is aimed at the romantization of the character. The mask worn by the hero acts as the key element of his appearance, it has symbolic meaning and is actively manifested in stage action.
