N. I. SOROKIN’S HELICOPTER OF 1909: EPILOGUE

Abstract. The authors reveal the history of the creation of the tandem-rotor helicopter by inventor N. I. Sorokin, tell that a number of publications on aviation history state that Sorokin failed to construct a functional mechanism in St. Petersburg in 1909 because of the lower-power motor, as a result of historical-technical researches managed to prove that on the eve of World War I Sorokin created a helicopter according to the scheme of 1909 in his native town Novgorod–Severskii of Chernigov province, and undertook some flights around the town; and moreover succeed in the recreation of the inventor’s ancestral branch, which was lost in history.
