MILITARY JUSTICE BODIES ROLE IN POLITICAL REPRESSIONS PROCESS OF 1937-1938

Abstract. The article reveals the composition and main directions of the activity of the military public prosecutor’s office and military tribunal of the USSR Northern Fleet during mass repressions period of 1937-1938. Statistical data about negative phenomena in the navy and the institution of criminal proceedings against servicemen for political crimes are presented. Military justice bodies’ ability to counteract People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs lawlessness and in whole to perform the functions of supervision over corresponding norms observance during preliminary investigation process is assessed. The author for the first time introduces some previously unpublished sources into scientific circulation.
