ROLE OF CALLIGRAPHIC TRADITION IN CHINESE INK WASH PAINTING OF THE XIX-XX CENTURIES

Abstract. The purpose of the article is to trace by the example of Chinese ink wash painting, how the role of calligraphic inscription in the scrolls of bird-and-flower painting was changing, and to consider its place in pictorial space in the period from the Middle Ages to the XIX-XX centuries. The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that the progressive development of the calligraphic component of the scrolls of bird-and-flower painting has not been a subject of a separate research.
