ETHNIC IDENTITY OF NORTHWESTERN YAKUTIA POPULATION AND SCIENTIFIC DISCUSSIONS OF THE 50S OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract. In the article on the basis of the analysis of archival and published source material the author reconstructs the history of discussions that occurred among Soviet scientists in the 1950s in relation to the ethnic affiliation of the population of the Anabar and Olenek districts of Yakutia. In this regard, the paper considers previously existed points of view on this issue and guidelines that were developed for their substantiation. A comparison of researchers’ positions with the results of the socio-political processes of the end of the XX - the beginning of the XXI century in the region allowed drawing conclusions about the significant influence of the phenomenon of historical memory on the national consciousness of the local population.
