HISTORY OF THE KAZAKH STEPPE SETTLEMENT BY THE TATARS (THE XVII-XX CENTURIES)

Abstract. The Tatars are one of the historically established diasporas of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This article is devoted to the history of modern Kazakhstan territory settlement by the Tatar population. The author pays particular attention to the chronology of the first waves of migration, their direction, and the social composition of the immigrants. By the beginning of the XX century the Tatars lived in almost every region of the Kazakh steppe being the fourth largest population after the Russians, Kazakhs and Ukrainians.
