REFORMS OF PETER I AND CHURCH ARCHITECTURE: INNOVATIONS AND TRADITIONS

Abstract. This article analyzes some church reforms that were realized by Peter I. In particular, it discusses the issue of relationship between church and secular authorities in the sphere of church architecture. It is highlighted that many of the innovations, which were introduced into church architecture and art during the reign of Peter I, had entered the national culture earlier. The scale of construction work in building temples during Peter’s time was insignificant, and European innovations can be attributed only to local phenomena of that time.
