HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE OF MODERNIZING STATION ECONOMY OF RAILWAY TRANSPORT IN THE URAL REGION IN THE 1956-1980S

Abstract. The article analyzes the experience of modernizing the station economy of railway transport in the Ural region in the period of its intensive electrification and extending the railway system. The electrification of railways, building new railway sections increased the volume and intensity of cargo traffic in the Ural railway system consequently requiring to broaden the existed and to build new railway stations, to equip the stations with modern technique and powerful distribution units. The paper examines the basic trends of the Ural railway modernization, identifies and analyzes causes for the low rates of developing the railway station infrastructure. The author shows that the insufficient budgetary financing of the railway station infrastructure, the poor resource base of building organizations gradually reduced the carrying capacity of the Ural railways.
