CATEGORY OF HAPPINESS IN ARISTOTLE’S MORAL PHILOSOPHY

Medvedev Nikolai Vladimirovich
Tambov State University named after G. R. Derzhavin

Abstract. Modern moral philosophy has been influenced for a long time by two main theories: Kantianism and utilitarianism. Growing dissatisfaction with these theories contributed to the revival of Aristotle’s ethical theory of happiness and theory of virtues in the last decades. The paper examines one of the main themes of Aristotelian moral philosophy - the category of "happiness", deals with the most controversial issues related to the notion of happiness. Aristotle’s theory of happiness is the most fully developed, clear and comprehensive in comparison with similar theories. The application goal of the research is to induce the reader to the serious, thoughtful study of Aristotle’s moral philosophy, which will help to develop a personal idea about lifestyle that is relevant to the idea of ??human happiness.
