OFFICIAL AND NON-OFFICIAL INTERPRETATIONS OF LATE SOVIET ART: PAINTERS OF THE 1970S GENERATION

Abstract. The article examines a problem relevant for studying late Soviet culture: correlation of official and non-official interpretations of Soviet art represented by the Seventiers’ painting. They are compared in the context of the key problems of that time: interest for tradition and its interpretation, renewal of picture typology, changing the spectator’s function, interest for society as community of individuals. The research findings allowed the author to conclude: official and non-official visual arts of the 1970s appear to be similar but not identical versions of late Soviet art.
