PAROEMIAS IN THE ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGY

Abstract.
In the article the content of the concept “paroemia” within the framework of paremiology - a sub-section of phraseology - is revealed. In the work linguistic terms associated with the concept of phraseological unit are specified, its typical characteristics are given. The author focuses on the consideration of phraseological units - paroemias (proverbs and sayings), which have both common and distinctive features, and notes a possibility of the formation of pupils’ communicative competence by the material of the paremic fund of the English language, as proverbs and sayings being phraseological units often contain culture-specific vocabulary as well as give an idea about the culture, customs and traditions of the country of the target language being a fragment of the linguistic view of the world.
