Abstract.
This article sets a task to identify the fears of the Florentines and their impact on the society of the XIV - the early XV century. For this purpose the author analyzes the work of the Italian historian Giovanni Villani “New Chronicle, or History of Florence”. The “Chronicle” is interesting in the way that it describes in detail not only the events that took place in Florence until 1348, but feelings and emotions experienced by the Florentines. In addition, on the basis of the “Chronicle” it is possible to trace the evolution of the city and its infrastructure development.
