Abstract.
The article examines the issues associated with the influence of the Russian translations of ancient Greek historians on the Russian culture of the XVIII-XIX centuries. Special attention is paid to the translations of “Bibliotheca historica” by Diodorus Siculus and “The Histories” by Polybius from Megalopolis. The problems under study have not been previously investigated by researchers as in the aspect of the history of the Russian translations of Diodorus Siculus and Polybius from Megalopolis so as in the aspect of their potential influence on the Russian culture of the XVIII-XIX centuries. The paper focuses on the monumental translation of Polybius executed by the Professor F. G. Mishchenko.
